Overview

A number of neighborhoods in the city’s center make up Central Kolkata, including Bowbazar, College Street, Chowringhee, Entally, and Park Street.

The preferred location for many big corporate firms in Kolkata is Chowringhee, which is the city’s major commercial area. Chowringhee was one of the first British outposts to be expanded the British began doing so outside of Fort William in the middle of the 18th century. The core business area is located in central Kolkata. The Esplanade and B. B. D. Bagh, formerly known as Dalhousie Square, are located on its east and west, respectively. There are several additional public and private offices, including the Lalbazar Police Headquarters, High Court, General Post Office, Reserve Bank of India, and the West Bengal Secretariat.
