Overview
A number of neighborhoods in the city’s center make up Central Kolkata, including Bowbazar, College Street, Chowringhee, Entally, and Park Street.
The preferred location for many big corporate firms in Kolkata is Chowringhee, which is the city’s major commercial area. Chowringhee was one of the first British outposts to be expanded the British began doing so outside of Fort William in the middle of the 18th century. Huge bungalows and homes were constructed at Chowringhee Road’s eastern end during the early British constructions in the region (Jawaharlal Nehru Road). Just a small number of them, notably The Oberoi Grand, the Janbazar Building, the Chowringhee Mansions, the Asiatic Society, and the magnificent Indian Museum, still stand.
With a large number of restaurants and bars, Park Street is Kolkata’s premier dining district. Also, it displays international publications as well as trendy clothing. Park Street has kept its British character. And it is so beautifully adorned for Christmas and New Year’s that it appears to still be a part of the British Empire.
The core business area is located in central Kolkata. The Esplanade and B. B. D. Bagh, formerly known as Dalhousie Square, are located on its east and west, respectively. There are several additional public and private offices, including the Lalbazar Police Headquarters, High Court, General Post Office, Reserve Bank of India, and the West Bengal Secretariat.
